William Penn Hotel

The William Penn Hotel, built in 1925 and last used by the Cenikor Foundation, was demolished in late January/early February 2006 by Spire Realty, who claimed it was an “obsolete” building:
That evaluation showed that the hotel’s low ceilings and small spaces made it difficult to market, said Brady Wilkins, senior vice president of Spire.
Once Spire decided not to renovate the building, Wilkins said, the company chose to demolish it - in part to save the cost of paying liability insurance on it.

Ben Milam Hotel

Texas at Crawford
![]() |

On Texas Ave. bordered by La Branch and Crawford, it has sat in disrepair for more than a couple of decades. This is one of the worst (or best) examples of historic waste in Houston. The garage and retail areas were demolished in early 2006 and the owner (David M. Smith) then built a restaurant on the site next to the dilapidated hotel.
