This strip mall-style shopping center once included Galena Park State bank on the far left, and several stores like Wayside Department Store, Baxter Hardware, Donut Queen Bakery, and Vardeman’s Jewelry.

The rear of the complex, closest to 1st St., was once home to the Galena Theater. The building is still there and used as a church but mostly hidden now, as seen below in the late 1940s/early 1950 Sanborn Map overlay on the Google Maps satellite image:
