Houston Lighting & Power Company

Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) was incorporated in December 1901 as HL&P 1901 and again in January 1905 as HL&P 1905 and finally, in April 1922 it was sold to General Electric’s National Power & Light, and was renamed Houston Lighting & Power Company. By 2002, after being acquired by Houston Industries (soon to become Reliant Energy), Reliant separated its regulated and unregulated businesses and HL&P became CenterPoint Energy.
