1956 Houston Parade of Homes – The Shamrock

7602 Cayton St. – Houston TX (architect: E. Kelly Gaffney)

From an advertisement for the 1956 Houston Parade of Homes brochure (thanks to GlenbrookValley.com):

It was the freshness and originality of many of the touches designed by E. Kelly Gaffney, the architect, that prompted [Builder] Mr. [J.D.] Swenson to name his home ‘The Shamrock.’ ‘ We built this one to appeal to the taste of most people who like contemporary homes,’ said Mr. Swenson. ‘Extremes have been avoided.’ Nevertheless the house contains such up-to-now innovations as flick-a-switch air conditioning, and intercom system, and power driven garage doors controlled by an electronic eye.

Mr. Gaffney sums up ‘The Shamrock’ like this: ‘Two of the best features in this home are flexibility achieved by the overlapping of the living, family and kitchen areas, and the entrance hall planning.
