1956 Houston Parade of Homes – The Trend Maker

7603 Cayton St. – Houston TX (architect: Jack W. Knostman)

From an advertisement for the 1956 Houston Parade of Homes brochure (thanks to GlenbrookValley.com):

Departing from custom is a habit of Builders Krist Hubert and Frank Burkhardt that has paid off in some unusual and attractive designs for today’s home owners. In their ‘all-electric’ house at 7603 Cayton Street, which will be shown during the Parade, the builders reverse custom and place their living room in the back rather than the front of the house. Here, they have created a room in which the family can get together for recreational activities or just relax in and enjoy the beauty of a landscaped back yard. Neither do Mr. Hubert or Mr. Burkhardt follow the practice of calling this room a ‘living room.’ They designate it the ‘activities room.’

Nothing has been spared to achieve beauty and spaciousness. Attractive paneling on two of the walls afford a contrast to the other walls which utilize sheetrock.
