2801 Market St. – Galveston TX (built 1969; architect: John S. Chase)
This was originally the International Longshoreman’s Association Local Union 851 building and was designed by John S. Chase, who was the first African American to enroll at the University of Texas and also the first African American licensed to practice architecture in Texas. He was also the founder of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA).
