1956 Houston Parade of Homes – Texas Ranch Colonial

7527 Cayton St. – Houston TX (architect: P. Herbert Caldwell)

From an advertisement for the 1956 Houston Parade of Homes brochure (thanks to GlenbrookValley.com):

The charms of the past and the functionalism of today’s demands are combined in this home given a rough-hewn appearance by an exterior of broken face Mexican brick and rustic cedar plans. Major portion of the outside construction is of masonry.

Continuing to carry out the ranch-type styling are square rough cedar columns which support a 33-foot covered walkway. Flower boxes beneath the windows are sheltered by a wood, shingled roof.

Reminders of the past are also seen in the overlapping vertical cedar used for contrast on the front elevation, in side gables, and in divided light windows and beamed cathedral ceilings.
