Construction began recently on a 90-unit luxury motel, the “Western Skies,” located at 2906 Old Spanish Trail near Almeda Road, Leon Green, contractor, announced. It will be one of Houston’s swankiest motels, featuring a large kidney-shaped swimming pool, riding stables, and a putting green.

With the pool will be a system of variegated lighting for sprays to enhance its appearance and give an unusual sight with changing effects. Fourteen penthouse apartments will be built overlooking the pool, with each apartment having a balcony. Rooms will be completely air conditioned, and cabanas will have an “outdoor living room” facing the pool.

One of the South’s foremost artists, Jacques de la Marrie, has been commissioned to paint murals throughout in keeping with the western theme.
