1956 Houston Parade of Homes – Greener Pastures

7523 Cayton St. – Houston TX (architect: Woodrow Alexander)

From an advertisement for the 1956 Houston Parade of Homes brochure (thanks to GlenbrookValley.com):

You’ll get to see an electronic oven ‘in action’ in the Parade home to be shown by Builder Frank Barringer at 7523 Cayton Street. With the electronic range, the modern housewife can turn out a mean in a matter of minutes or prepare a menu for unexpected company as if she’d been planning them for weeks. Don’t misunderstand, the oven doesn’t plan the menus, but cooks them in no time flat. Its electronic brain is concealed in the process of cooking and not in the preparation. Mr. Barringer says a demonstrator will be in the kitchen all during the Parade to show visitors just how this new appliance works.

Mr. Barringer and his architect, Woodrow Alexander, have carried a highly progressive theme throughout their entire house with ‘Solar’ windows on the outside and such interior features as a skylight, built-in bookcases and built-in dressing tables in both all-tiled baths. The ‘Solar’ windows can be left open while it’s raining without any rain coming inside. They’re also burglar proof, and yet serve the function they were purposely created for – to bring in fresh air and sun light.
